3D Print — Let's Fight Corona

In 2020, my brother Jeff and I co-founded a grassroots initiative to 3D-print protective face shields for healthcare workers. What started with a few printers grew into a movement — all donations, no profit.

The project finished in 2nd place for “Lëtzebuerger vum Joer 2020” — representing all 700+ volunteers who made it possible.

04 About me

The Story So Far

I'm Tom Schockmel, 40 years old, living in Belvaux and working in the public sector in Luxembourg. I'm a single dad raising a wonderful 7-year-old daughter — she's my everything, and I want to give her the best life I can. That's actually how Zipsi was born: I built her a math app so she could learn playfully and have fun at school.

During the day I take care of school IT — in the evenings I tinker with smart home setups, 3D printers, and whatever little project catches my attention. Together with the incredibly talented Jessica Avarello I co-founded LetzPrint, a small digital manufacturing company here in Luxembourg. I also run HeimGeek.eu, a German-language blog about smart home tech.

For me, technology works best when it's practical and accessible — whether that's a guide for beginners, a custom product, or an app that makes learning fun.
